The Clearance Rack Is Nothing To Fear

Clearance Rack Talk

By Lupine Aldrich

We all know that shopping from a food clearance rack can be risky when shopping for food. However, the rewards can out-way the dangers. At my local Fred Meyers, we have a bakery clearance rack by the milk section. And as it happens I practically live at the store because I’m always forgetting something and buy about five more items than what was on my list. And almost every time one of those items is a bag of garlic bread, which is made at the bakery and placed in a bag. And if it is not sold in a few days it is placed on the rack.
And me having a bread addiction, this is my favorite place to shop. Normally the bread is $4, and that can get expensive if you enjoy as much as I do. So I always make sure to check the clearance rack to see what deals I can snag on my favorite bread item or other sweet treats.
However, you must be careful when shopping here because often times the product has been touch a lot. So just scan the packaging thoroughly before making your purchase on your out of date fourth of July cake pops.
I would highly recommend purchasing goods from these racks if you ran out of time to make a cake or are just lazy, which is not to be ashamed of, to make something and you need a sweet treat.

Too Sweet For A Sweet Tooth

Brownie Cake With Cookie Dough Icing Review

By Lupine Aldrich

Recipe by Lemon Sugar

So, the other day my friend came over and we decided to try our hands at a new recipe we found. I wouldn’t say that we are pros at cooking, but we do know what we are doing. We know the basics and a bit more. So once we started we noticed that there was a lot of sugar in this recipe. And when I say a lot, I mean three cups of sugar just in the batter. Granted we decided to make it into two layers instead of the suggested three, however, we did end up using less batter than intended.
But what found me dumbstruck was the fact that even though the recipe required so much sugar, was that it was extremely bitter. The cakes themselves took a significantly long time to cook. Became hard on the top and yet was still gooey in the center.
The icing, however, was palatable. I found it still full of sugar, and I love sweet treats. I understand this is supposed to act like cookie dough and it typically contains a lot of sugar, but this demanded three and a half cups of powdered sugar and three-fourths cup of brown sugar. And on top of that, the cake recipe also suggested a chocolate ganache that we didn’t include. I find it that if we did happen to add this, we would’ve made this cake inedible beyond even my standards in which I am likely to accept almost any sweet treat set in front of me.
Along with this, the recipe had a few typos and in my opinion requested too many ingredients that I could’ve used in other, better, foods, such as six eggs and three sticks of butter. This cake took up my valuable time. However, in its defense, I enjoyed the practice I received being able to make this new dish even though I did not enjoy it.
To conclude, I found this cake rich. Even richer than the scamming Nigerian princes asking for your credit card information. It required too many valuable ingredients, used my time, and made my mouth gritty from all the sugar contained in this. However, in this, I will include a link to the recipe so you can try your hand at it.
